The Ardnamurchan experience

For DoddieAid 2024 teams of cyclists from all over the UK propelled themselves across Europe through the bitter March weather to reach Rome ahead of the Scotland v Italy Six Nations match on 9th March.

So back in April we were invited over to the Ardnamurchan Distillery on the remote western peninsula sandwiched between Mull and Skye for a very special opportunity. We’ve been obsessed with everything that this incredible distillery produce and the lovely people that make it, so imagine our excitement when the call comes in to ask if we would like to come across and personally select a cask and have them bottle it for us as an exclusive Lockett Bros bottling. This is an incredible honour and one that only a handful of retailers have had so to be in the company with the likes of Selfridges and Royal Mile Whiskies is pretty cool.

After three or four hours of sampling casks in the warehouse we eventually stumbled out having settled on an Unpeated First Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. My favourite tasting note from all the barely legible scribbles is ‘butterkist toffee popcorn, sooooooooo good!!!’ Bottled at natural cask strength 58.6% Vol. The 308 bottles each individually numbered with ‘exclusively bottled for Lockett Bros, North Berwick’ printed proudly on the label arrived last week and we’re giving the local area first dibs on securing a bottle.

A batch will go online in a week or two where they are likely to sell overnight, such as it is with such a special release but this also emphasises the brilliance of this distillery and the cult following that they already have after only ten years of their existence. Ardnamurchan Cask #787 Bottled exclusively for Lockett Bros, North Berwick (£95).
