Lukas Van Loggerenberg ‘Kameraderie’ Chenin Blanc 2021
We loved meeting Lukas Van Loggerenberg on our trip to South Africa in January 2017, one of the highlights of the entire trip. Only 200 cases of this wonderful Chenin Blanc exist. Made from Chenin Blanc from Paarl planted in 1960 and from a vineyard that Lukas believes offers the perfect soil profile for Chenin and is a varietal that is a great carrier of the terroir. The name ‘Kameraderie’ reflects not only his comrades that helped him through the harvest, as his kneecap kept popping out, but the way food and wine match so well. Only four barrels of this were made. This is a wine that will live with you for a long time. Incredible complexity. We tasted a lot of Chenin Blancs on our trip and few were as good as this example. Peaches, white flowers, a lovely spiciness from old French barrels, precise, savoury, stone fruit, nutty, soft green herbs. I really cannot give it enough praise.
