the Alentejo Region
I fell in love with Portuguese wines and in particular the Malhadinha Nova Estate in the Alentejo Region in 2007. Since then I must have returned about four times. Not only do they make spectacular wine but they also have one of my favourite restaurants in the world and also a hideaway retreat in amongst the vineyards where I’ve stayed on a couple of occasions.
Monte da Peceguina
Since then I must have returned about four times. Not only do they make spectacular wine but they also have one of my favourite restaurants in the world and also a hideaway retreat in amongst the vineyards where I’ve stayed on a couple of occasions. We often holiday on the Algarve and one of the days we’ll all head up to Malhadinha for a tasting followed by a long boozy lunch.
Five stars every time! Their entry Monte da Peceguina range always deliver and I’ve been a fan of them for over 15 years but it’s their flagship Malhadinha Tinto that really is a true masterpiece. Aged in pristine new french oak for a minimum of 14 months with the blend (usually Alicante Bouchet, Aragones, Cabernet and Syrah) from the estate’s best and oldest vines.
