Glencadam 10yo

For DoddieAid 2024 teams of cyclists from all over the UK propelled themselves across Europe through the bitter March weather to reach Rome ahead of the Scotland v Italy Six Nations match on 9th March.

I’ve been staring at the screen for some time now trying to decide which Single Malt to write about. The amount of quality whisky on the market is quite extraordinary. We all know that demand for whisky has increased with the global market for single malt Scotch hitting a new high in 2012 – selling some 7.8m cases. The market has gained by some 46.7%, or 2.48m cases, over the last 10 years (2003-2012).  I set up the shop at about the time of this boom and it’s within this decade that I’ve witnessed not just a massive increase in the levels of interest in malt whisky but a massive increase in the quality. I could have picked just about any distillery for this week’s column but I’ve finally settled on a wee favourite of ours – Glencadam. It was also about ten years ago that this wonderful distillery in Angus really hit its stride after being bought by independent Scottish distillers group Angus Dundee. The Glencadam 10yo (£37) is one of the most elegant, delicate and balanced malts you’ll ever taste. The most perfect levels of vanilla and spice. To make matters even more joyous, the whisky is bottled at 46% Non-Chill Filtered to ensure the flavour components are preserved and the naturalness of the whisky from the cask can be enjoyed to the max.
