Five whisky options just for you on World Whisky Day

For DoddieAid 2024 teams of cyclists from all over the UK propelled themselves across Europe through the bitter March weather to reach Rome ahead of the Scotland v Italy Six Nations match on 9th March.

Today is World Whisky Day and we’re incredibly excited about it!

We love whisky, as you know, but we realise that not everybody is as passionate about it as we are so we thought we’d offer you five absolutely lip-smacking options to try today… not all in one go though, obviously.

Carn Mor Strictly Limited Tamdhu 2008 7 Year Old

When we say “strictly limited” we mean exactly that. This heady offering is winning a lot of plaudits, many of them from the Lockett Bros team, because it’s just so damn good.

Although the aroma on the nose does not give much away, the palate is a burst of exotic fruits and would be a fantastic dram for enthusiasts and beginners alike. You heard it here first.

Old Perth Blended Malt Whisky

Nobody really talks about blends, we know. Single malt whisky rules all but just sometimes there’s a blend worth talking about and this beauty is most certainly one of those.

This is a classically-styled blended malt whisky from Morrison & MacKay. It’s a carefully blended tribute to the city of Perth and there’s hardly a more fitting way to pay homage to a very special part of Scotland.

Before you scoff at the word “blended” take a chance on this whisky and you’ll be in for a surprise!

Nikka From the Barrel 51.4%

Now we’re not so arrogant that we think World Whisky Day has to be mean Scotch whisky… no, no, no. Far from it, in fact. We’re a big supporter of other nations’ whiskies and Japan has some crackers.

Nikka From the Barrel 51.4% is comprised of blended single malts from both the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries along with an element of grain whisky. It’s finally matured in first-fill bourbon casks.

It has a deep, bright gold appearance and the aromas offer toasty cereals, straw, cocoa, pear and spices, all beautifully intertwined.

Ileach Single Islay Malt Whisky

If you would like a wee bit of mystery around your World Whisky Day dram, then look no further than the Ileach Single Islay Malt Whisky.

This little joy is a young and peaty single malt from an unnamed Islay distillery. It’s a seriously good value Single Islay Malt Whisky, which has received praise for its straight-to-the-point smoky flavour.

Bruichladdich 12 Year Old Second Edition

If ever there were a prize for the most striking branding (and there is) then this Wurlitzer of a single malt would take it hands down.

Please don’t think it’s all about style with this whisky though. Far from it. It’s really all about substance and we absolutely adore it.

The catch is, we don’t have many bottles left, so get in quick!

It’s one of the delightful original releases from Bruichladdich.  Matured in a combination of first and second fill Bourbon casks. Just so damn easy to drink, especially on World Whisky Day!
