‘All Roads Lead to Rome’
All this being done to raise funds for the fight against MND. Anthony Stodart, Chris Lockett, James Fisher & Mark Morriss, ably supported by 7 others are team “Need a Northerly”. We cycled in a non-stop relay from Scotland to Italy. Leaving from North Berwick Rugby Club on Sunday 3rd Marchand arriving into Rome on Friday 8th Marchalongside the other teams and the match ball. 1650 miles and 71,400ft of ascent ( 2 x Everests!) in 4.5 days with little to no sleep. All for a great cause fighting to defeat the dreadful Motor Neurone Disease.
All very surreal now but we did what we said we would do and, after 1650 miles we got to Rome within 2 hrs of when we planned to. Chapeau to everyone involved as it was a truly team effort. 4 cyclists raise their hats to 7 support crew who drove, cooked & supported every meter of the way and without whom it simply wouldn’t have been possible.
We got there after many a momentincluding some monumental climbs, some floaty downhills, some dark times in the dead of night in freezing conditions and some skin loss after a couple of falls but all for a fantastic cause and to hopefully finding a cure for MND.
A team effort that is easiest for those on the bike who just have to get out there and put power through the pedals. Most difficult for the support crew who don’t get the glory but without whom it simply wouldn’t happen. The total raise by our team was £20,000.
