‘Tis the season to drink and be merry (almost) so sit back and enjoy a little evening treat in front of a roaring fire!
Winter is now most definitely here with Storm Abigail is bearing down on the UK.
But don’t let this miserable weather get you down. There’s something strangely enjoyable about listening to a roaring storm as you sip a drink from the comfort of your home.
Hurricane Abigail can throw what she wants at us. We’ll be fine in front of the fire with one of these beauties!
Casa Silva Cool Coast Pinot Noir
This is Casa Silva’s second 100 per cent Paredones-grown wine and a new addition to their ‘Cool Coast’ line.
Planted on the coastal hills (hence the name) near the Pacific Ocean, this wine is dominated by the red fruits of pomegranate, cherries and strawberries. There’s a subtle but definite hint of cinnamon giving this wine a perfect winter touch.
Alpha Zeta Amarone
Using grapes grown in the northeast of Italy, the Alpha Zeta Amarone is arguably the region’s most prestigious red wine and it’s one that is just perfect for this time of year.
With the aromas of intense cherries and blueberries, there’s also has a subtle hint of spiced autumn fruits. Starting off with a strong ripe hit, balanced out with a cherry infusion, this deep red wine leaves the palate with a wood smoke finish. Delish!
Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre
Our last, but certainly not least, of the big red wines for the winter season – The Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre.
It’s a classic spicy red wine, grown in the same region as the Alpha Zeta Amarone. This wine is perfect for nearer Christmas time with the aromas of vanilla and currants inspiring you to prepare the Christmas pudding perhaps.
On the palate this wine has an elegant taste of ripe red berries with a smooth tone of chocolate. The refreshing acidity will spark you awake on those darker nights.
For those of you who prefer the company of a classic single malt to a large red we have selected some of our favourites so you don’t miss out.
Balblair 1989
This classic distilled in the highlands brings an extra intensity to the table compared to its previous releases, now at a mighty 46%.
Honey gold in colour, the Balblair offers cloves with the winter touch of cinnamon alongside subtle fruity tones of lemon, apple and even banana.
On the palate there’s a rich spiciness from raisins and a fruity tone with a long finish, which is ultimately smooth.
Bruichladdich 16-Year-Old Bourbon Cask
Another classic Scottish malt Islay, this stonker is one of our absolute favourites.
This Bruichladdich is a confident single malt with a beautiful golden colour.
Ready yourself for a sweet nougat aroma that is unlike pretty much any other single malt you could find.
On the palate you will experience a strong flavour of vanilla spice with the fruity tones of apples and pears. There’s a big finish that leaves a crisp, fruity aftertaste.
