Frequenters to our little wine shop will know how mad we are for Italian wine, we can barely fit any more onto the shelves yet we keep discovering little gems that simply have to be brought in. In this case we needed to replace a particular wine that is being discontinued by a supplier so a simple one in one out case. Chianti is undoubtedly one of the great names of Italian wines. There are 8 zones of Chianti, of which Chianti Colli Senesi is one and it covers the vineyards around the medieval town of Siena. Tenuta Bichi Borghesi is a large estate of over 400ha but with only 20ha under vine, which provides all the grapes for their production. The family has owned and run the estate for over 400 years, and it is with the new generation that the estate has been renewed and re-invigorated.
A full flavoured wine with distinctly earthy tones. Quite rich on the nose, followed by a substantial breadth on the palate and good length on the finish. Sun drenched Toscana can always pull something out of the bag and this delicious Chianti is no exception. Seek it out, I guarantee you’ll be impressed with Bicchi Borghesi Chianti (£11).
