Make sure you put the date in the diary to pop in to the store on the 5th October to meet Peter Logan, from Logan Wines, and taste some of his wines. Always a pleasure to have Peter come over and visit us. He’ll be in-store from 12 noon until close at 7.30pm
We’ve all heard of doctors and lawyers who leave the desk for the greener pastures of winemaking. But have you heard of a chemist-turned-(failed)-muso turned winemaker? Introducing Peter Logan, the winemaker behind Logan, one of Australia’s most exciting young wine labels.
Peter developed a passion for wine while backpacking through Europe yet persevered as a Process Chemist for several years before testing his skills as a chemist-of-the-grape in the Hunter Valley. Loving every aspect of winemaking, Peter decided to build his own wine brand and selected the growing site of Orange, identifying the altitude, cool weather and rich volcanic soils as the perfect ingredients to produce elegant, fruit driven wines with delicacy and power.
Peter loves the rich fruit characters of Australian wines yet also admires the balance, structure and finesse of Old World wines. His winemaking philosophy represents a hybrid of these two styles – utilising modern techniques to trap fresh fruit flavours yet also employing some Old World practices – such as crushing Pinot Noir grapes by foot.
